How I Failsafe Your Wedding Photography

Your wedding day is a big deal. So much time, effort, and money go into making your dream day a reality, and ensuring your story is beautifully photographed is a job I take very seriously. Most of the questions I hear from my clients in the initial stages of booking often start with ‘What happens if..?’ Now, while none of the ‘what if’ scenarios ever come to fruition I do take a number of steps to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible, so let’s explore five ways I ensure your wedding day photography goes without a hitch…

1. I get to know you

The most important way I can serve you the best wedding photography I can produce is to know you. The more I know about you as individuals and as a couple, the more I can mold my work around your day. Every duo and wedding is unique and what you bring to the lens will always influence the images. My consultations are designed for me to be able to find out about your day but also to learn about you to create wedding photography that captures you perfectly. This is also why a pre-wedding or an engagement session is included with almost all of my wedding photography packages. These sessions are so useful for us to develop our relationship together, not only do you get used to being in front of a camera, but I also get a sense of the best way to direct you too. Also, in the planning, shooting, and delivery of your pre-wedding session I get a really in-depth understanding of your preferences.

2. I visit your wedding venue or location

I see a lot of venues, I often visit a venue multiple times over and I know that so much can change in terms of depending on the time of year and time of day and that’s why I always visit your venue a few weeks before your day. How does this help me failsafe your wedding photography? Well, armed with your shot list from our many consultations (see above) I will know exactly what you’re looking for and will be able to identify the best spots around your venue and create a timeline for your wedding photography that will optimise our time to create a set of wedding images you will treasure forever.

3. Meticulous planning for your big day

So we’ve got to know each other, I have a detailed breakdown of your day a clear and I’ve visited your venue; it’s time to get planning. Wedding days are fast-paced and I like to have everything planned out in detail. I always create a mood board for your wedding made up of your pre-wedding shots, snaps from your venue visit, and any details you’ve shared with me like flower choices and colour schemes. This at-a-glance visual guide is so useful to me to check in with as the day unfolds, it allows me to react and respond and document your day while staying true to your vision. I also spend a great deal of time looking at the schedule for your day to make sure I know exactly where I need to be to capture the big moments, the beautiful moments, and the carefully planned details.

 4. Back up wedding photography kit

Tucked deep into the depths of my car is a mini-kit with a back-up camera and flash. This ‘break glass’ photography bag is never used and the first packed kit on the night before a wedding and well, it just helps everyone sleep better at night. Am I right?

5. All weather-ready wedding photography.

The one element we can never count on is the weather but rest assured that for the most part, I have everything I need to create beautiful wedding photos. Whether it’s additional lighting for creating beautiful images indoors or photography-friendly umbrellas for light spring showers, I have an arsenal of equipment, experience, and tricks to ensure we get the photos you always dreamed of.
